Release Tension Through Dynamic Body Balancing

A Dynamic Body Balancing session with Dr. Hurley can include craniosacral therapy, full-body myofascial unwinding, and balancing your energy field.

Dynamic Body Balancing is a body work, comparable to massage, that works to release tension in the body by unwinding the fascia. This myofascial release can be achieved through light stretching or trigger point work, and can be adapted for infants, sensory avoidant children, pregnancy, and elderly patients.

Craniosacral Therapy balances the bones in the skull and face to help balance. This helps create symmetry in the cranium, relieves headaches and migraines, and is part of my TMJ dysfunction treatment plan.

Dynamic Body Balancing can also incorporate emotional release. We hold space for energy, emotions, memories, or trauma that may be stored in the body.

How can I prepare for my Dynamic Body Balancing session?

-A note from Dr. Hurley

Hello! I'm Dr. Emily Hurley Baumann.

I wanted to share with you some ways to prepare for your Dynamic Body Balancing session in order to get the most out of the experience.

First, let me tell you a bit more about Dynamic Body Balancing and what you can expect from our work together.

Dynamic Body Balancing is a powerful technique to unwind physical tension in the body. This is best experienced in conjunction with regular chiropractic care. Your session may include a myofascial release of the legs and hips, arms and shoulders, or diaphragm and ribcage. This may also include craniosacral work through unwinding the spinal cord and cranials, as well as intraoral TMJ work.

If one of these areas are calling to you more than the rest, feel free to let me know you would like this area to be the focus when we meet for your session.

Dynamic Body Balancing also creates space to recognize that we store emotions, memories, and traumas in our body. A common example of this is when we are stressed our shoulders can become tense. Similarly, we can store grief in our hip. We may have anxiety around driving after a car accident locked into our arms. As we unwind the physical tension it is common to notice a release of energy and emotion.

While this can be a beautiful way to process traumas and release patterns of difficult emotions, be aware it does not replace mental health support and is best experienced in conjunction with regular therapy/counseling.

In preparation for our session together, I encourage you to take some time to reflect on any patterns of physical discomfort you notice. Journal about them, when they began, what makes them feel better and what tends to trigger them.

I also recommend you write about any intentions you would like to set for our session and for the current season of your life. You may feel drawn to reflect on goals you have, cycles of obstacles you are facing, limiting beliefs that hold you back from working towards your vision for your life. If you choose to write about frustrations or negative events or emotions, be sure to also take the time to write out the positive outcome of changing or removing those issues from your life. I will not expect you to share these with me at any point, though it will be a safe space if you desire to do so.

Lastly, be prepared to continue to process and integrate the next day or two after our session. Ideas to support yourself as you continue to release tension and energy the next few days after our session are:

Epsom salts baths

Grounding/Earthing (walking barefoot in grass and dirt)

Infrared sauna

Salt therapy/halotherapy at a salt room

Acupuncture

Journaling

Yoga

Walks

Hiking

Float Spas

Sound therapy through sound baths

Massage

I look forward to seeing you soon!
